Coventry City's Sky Blues In The Community have been awarded a three year £70k grant from Comic Relief.
The money is to be used to fund projects involving football and life skills for local adults with learning difficulties or Downs Syndrome as part of the Leaning To Play Programme and will see City not only being able to field a new team in the Ability Counts League but will see a number of weekly football coaching sessions, with regular workshops at the Ricoh Arena involving partners of the scheme to assist those taking part with various life skills.
David Busst, who heads City’s Sky Blues In The Community Set Up, told the club website: David Busst said: "This grant is absolutely fantastic news for us because although we reach thousands of children in the Coventry and Warwickshire area, we can now spread our net to work with other groups including vulnerable adults.
"We are very much looking forward to the start of the Learning To Play programme in September, in particular the Down's Syndrome element of the project as this will be a first for the community scheme."
