Coventry City are upto sixth in the Championship table after their 4-1 home win against Southampton. The victory lifted them seven places in the table.

Birmingham are top of the table after beating Iain Dowie's Queens Park Rangers side 1-0. Wolves,whom City travel to on October 18th are second after losing 3-1 at Swansea City.

Reading are third with twenty points after a 3-1 home win over Burnley with Sheffield United 3-0 winners over Bristol City fourth and Plymouth after stuffing Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 at Home Park.

Bottom side Nottingham Forest lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace with Barnsley moving above Doncaster in the bottom three with a 4-1 win at Oakwell.

Other results saw Watford beat Preston 2-1,Charlton beat Ipswich and Derby won at Norwich by the same score with Blackpool leaving it late to get a draw at home to Cardiff.

Leicester City lead League One after winning at Huddersfield 3-2. Kevin Thornton was booked in Brighton's 3-3 draw with Cheltenham.

Former City youngster, Keiran Fitzharris scored for Rugby Town but Tony Dobson's side lost 3-2 at Cambridge City in a BGB Southern League Premier Division fixture.

In the Midland Division,league leaders Leamington beat Chesham 2-0 with Corbett getting both goals.

A 48th minute goal from Mark Noon put Nuneaton ahead in an FA Trophy fixture at Goole. Lee equalised with twenty minutes left to earn a replay on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Atherstone are out after losing 2-1 at Carlton Town.

Bedworth United are out of the Birmingham Senior Cup after being beaten at home by Sutton Coldfield Town 2-1.

It was also FA Vase day. Racing Club Warwick were beaten 2-1 by Heanor Town but Stratford stuffed Coleshill Town 6-0.

In the Coventry derby in the Midland Combination,Coventry Copeswood have the bragging rights with a 4-2 victory at Massey Ferguson. Nuneaton Griff won 2-0 at Walsall Wood.

In the Midland Combination Reserves Division,Kyle Rhodes scored for Coventry Sphinx Reserves in a 3-1 defeat at Heather St John.
