Coventry City Ladies won the Birmingham County FA Womens Cup Final for the first time in the club's history with a 1-0 victory against Aston Villa.

This re-arranged game at the County HQ in Ray Hall Lane in Brimingham drew a reasonable crowd and saw a tight first half.

Courtney Sweetman-Kirk fired in City's first shot in the ninth minute, followed by an effort from Jade Formaston.

Villa started to put pressure on the City defence but came up against four Sky Blues defenders and keeper Sue Wood who were determined to not let anything pass.

Emma Hollingsworth and Nathasha Lynch held the central defence superbly against the classy Carly Davies who struck Wood's right hand post in the 48th minute.

Then against the run of play, City took the lead. Gina Goulding who has been called up in to the Welsh national squad for training sent over a cracking 55th minute cross for Courtney Sweetman-Kirk to fire home from close range, delighting the City support which was vastly out-numbered.

Substitute Nicole Dale forced a good save out of the keeper and with Callan Barber having a stormer in midfield, Sweetman-Kirk fired in a dipping shot which Welsh had to push over.

Villa had a good chance towards the end through Follis but City stayed firm and won the cup.
