Coventry City Ladies progressed to the League Cup Semi-Finals with a 2-1 victory at West Ham United this afternoon.
At Thurrock FC and in the sunshine, City started on the attack with Kerry Bartlett firing wide and a good sweeping move involving Emily Simpkins and Danni Saulter ended with Courtney Sweetman-Kirk striking at top corner and a great save by the home keeper,
In the 18th minute, Ciy took the lead when Courtney Sweetman-Kirk passed to Danni Saulter who got the ball some 25 yards out and juggled it onto left foot before sweeping a shot into top right hand corner of the net.
That was the way it stayed until early in the second half when Blanchflower chipped in from close range after City had failed to deal with an awkwardly bouncing ball in from the right.
Paul Cudby went for a double change bringing on Helen Dermody and Kim Farrow and with seven minutes left, Jade Formaston looked up and her inch perfect ball was powered into the net by Courtney Sweetman-Kirk to give City a semi-final against Leeds United.
