Coventry City Ladies went down to a 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa.
At Bedworth United's The Oval, Paul Cudby was unable to keep the same team that had won 3-1 at Villa in a WPL League Cup tie last Sunday for this WPL National Division fixture, having lost Hayley Ladd in the warm up.
In the opening minute, Danni Saulter found Courtney Sweetman-Kirk on the right and she fired over a cross which just missed the diving Destiny Toussant.
City followed this up with a corner and Sweetman-Kirk rounding the keeper but firing wide and sending over another cross which caused problems for the Villa defence.
The chances for City continued with Simpkins going close with a 25 yard free kick and Sweetman-Kirk firing at Megan Walsh in the Villa goal.
Helen Dermody, had a 23rd minute free kick pushed over by Walsh for a corner before Walsh saved from Toussant.
Walsh had to make a superb save in the 37th minute to conced a corner from a stinging Simpkins shot. This led to Helen Dermody getting into the area before she was upended and a penalty was awarded.
Dermody stepped up and scored the opening goal that City have deserved for the amount of chances they had.
Ninety seconds into the second half, Villa were level, when Beth Merrick lobbed Sue Wood from sixteen yards.
City struggled to recreate their first half pressure and Merrick really should have put Villa ahead in the 52nd minute when she got to a Walton error but fired wide with only Wood to beat.
In the 58th minute, Wood pushed over a Wilkinson piledriver. Both sides made changes before Villa went ahead in the 73rd minute when Wood pushed a shot away following a corner and Sherry McCue banged in the loose ball.
In the 78th minute, Destiny Toussant lost the ball lost the ball, Villa won a corner and Nathaha Merrett banged home from the edge of the area to compound a bad day at the office.
