Coventry City Ladies relegated Nottingham Forest after a 1-1 draw.
In a game moved to Burton Joyce FC in deepest Nottinghamshire, City started to get into their stride early with the industrious Courtney Sweetman-Kirk and Formaston getting in early shots.
The Sky Blues put together some good moves and one in the 19th minute involving Jade Formaston who had a good game along, finding Danni Saulter who fired not far wide from the edge of the area.
Helen Dermody was another City player who worked hard and she was unlucky in the 22nd minute when her 30 yard free kick just missed.
Seven minutes later, it all went right when a Saulter ball from the right fell for Courtney Sweetman-Kirk to slip the ball past the keeper and put City ahead.
Sue Wood made a good diving save but in the 42nd minute, a spirited Forest side were awarded a penalty when an assistant felt that Emma Hollingsworth had handled. Jemma Connor-Iommi scored to level the game.
That was the way it stayed with Forest having the better chances and keeping Sue Wood busy.
Wood pushed a Davies shot over in the 49th minute and in the 74th minute, saved a penalty, diving to her right, from Connor-Iommi after Barber was adjudged to have handled.
Former City defender Nat Wilcox had a couple of chances and Wood saved from Whelan as City took the draw to move them up to fourth in the table and relegate Forest and Reading after Cardiff's draw at Aston Villa.
