Coventry City Ladies won 2-0 at Cardiff City Ladies in a WPL National Division fixture in South Wales this afternoon.
At the International Stadium in Leckwith, Cardiff, Chris Holloway's side were straight on the attack with Dermody's floated free kick, half cleared and volleyed goalwards by Jade Formaston who fired just wide with keeper beaten.
City won a corner and Hayley Ladd sent in a volley from the edge of box which was headed off the line with Nokes again beaten.
A goal was on the cards and it came when Courtney Sweetman-Kirk beats beat the offside trap. Her first touch was too strong but she flicked wide for Helen Dermody to finish at the far post.
Sweetman-Kirk had a 22 yarder finger tipped wide and following City's fifth corner, Kim Walton struck the bar and the ball came down for Natasha Lynch to get in a close range header which was brilliantly saved on the line by Nokes.
Cardiff were then reduced to ten players when Stewart was sent off for a second yellow card, when it appeared that she was booked for returning to field of play without permission after earlier being cautioned.
With ten minutes of the second half remaining, substitute Karen Clough received the ball half way and cruised through middle as defence opens up for her before firing a left footed shot into the corner of the net.
Sweetman-Kirk chipped the keeper but the ball went wide of the goal before Chris Holloway used his last two substitutes with a double change which ensured that the Sky Blues took a deserved victory.
Team: Wood, Miles, Lynch, Walton, Hollingsworth, Ladd, Formaston (Dale 85), Barber (Clough 70), Sweetman-Kirk, Dermody, Reay (McQuilkin 85).
