Reports indicate that Mellor will have no part in Preston boss Darren Ferguson's plans and the 27 year old who has scored 11 times for the Lillywhites this season can leave Deepdale.
The forward has made 15 (+7 sub) appearances for Liverpool scoring six goals, 9 (12 sub) for West Ham scoring twice, five appearances for Wigan Athletic for whom he scored one goal and Preston North End where he has had 69 starts plus 60 sub appearances and has scored 34 goals.
