Former Coventry City defender Stephen Pressley is calling for the Scotiish Premier League to introduce Play-Offs between the SPL and Division One.

Pressley, who made 19 appearances for City in the Premier League scoring once, in 1994-1995, has said to BBC Scotland:"If there is the status quo this summer with the 12-team SPL then there has to be an introduction of play-offs.

"There has to be an opportunity to get another team up. The first reason is to generate interest in our division and secondly to generate finance."

Pressley, now manager of Falkirk who finished third in the First Division added: "My budgetary figure has dropped 75% [since the club were in the SPL].

"I don't think people at the top end of the game and chairman outside the Scottish Football League just now have a real understanding of the harsh reality of it."

Scottish top flight clubs have been discussing changes to the league structure and play-offs are part of the proposals. However, the clubs are currently unable to agree to an alternative to a twelve team league and an 11-1 majority is needed in order to for any changes of league size to be approved.
