Former Coventry City loanee James Bailey has signed for Barnsley.

Bailey, had been a free agent after being released by Steve McLaren at Derby County and has joined Barnsley on a two year deal.

Barnsley boss Danny Wilson told www.barnsleyfc.co.uk : “He’s a stabilising unit that will give other midfielders the freedom to get forward.

“We’ve set out to do this from stage one; to get a young, eager team that can thrive for years to come - not just the immediate future. James comes into that category very well. He’s still very young but has experience of the Championship and League One.

“I feel he will compliment Conor (Hourihane) and can give us that stability and defensive mentality. It then encourages the likes of Brad Abbott and Paul Digby to get forward. He’s an insurance man and can dictate the tempo of play.

"Hopefully we'll be the recipient of a very hungry, young man coming into our team."
