Nottingham Forest have taken Stephen Hughes with them on a pre-season tour of Germany. Having rejected a deal offered by the Sky Blues for a fifth season at the club, Hughes has been training with the Championship newcomers. Colin Calderwood is expected to take a keen interest in how Hughes plays in these matches so he can make a decision whether to sign him or not.

Chester City are chasing Trevor Benjamin. The striker, who had his contract taken over by the Sky Blues was released by Hereford United at the end of last season.

Tottenham are less than happy about the approach for Robbie Keane by Liverpool. They have complained to the FA Premier League about the move from Liverpool who have already offered £20 for the forward who was sold by City to bail out Geoffrey Robinson.

Jay Bothroyd is being linked with a move to Leeds United. The striker had been at Wolves last season but does not appear part of Mick McCarthy's plans and is looking for a new club.

Chesterfield, who will be skippered in the new season by Robert Page are interested in signing Darren Currie. The winger who was on loan at City during Micky Adams' final months, was at Luton Town last season.

Tom Bates is at Atherstone Town. The midfielder was at Coventry Sphinx last season but has opted to move to the side promoted to the Southern League Midland Division.
