Coventry City are out of the Birmingham Senior Cup for another season with a 3-1 defeat at Rushall Olympic.
The Sky Blues, with Jason Farndon taking the team, fielded a normal U23's side with Liam O'Brien in goal on a cold night for this First Round game against a side from the Northern Premier League.
On a sloping pitch at Dales Lane, City went a goal down after 156 seconds when a ball from the right was swept in by AJ Adelekan from inside the six yard box and went in off a City player.
City came back with a Hickman header and a Sayoud shot but in the ninth minute. O'Brien blocked to concede a corner and then let a six yard header from Joe Hull go past him on his left and into the net.
Then in the 13th minute, Tyler Blake got through. Dion Kelly-Evans shoved him and Blake got up to put away the resulting penalty to see the Sky Blues three goals down.
O'Brien had to push a good shot over and Sayoud had a couple of efforts in a half that saw Camwell and Landell booked.
Some of the City players were starting to struggle with the physicality of the home side a bit and Bayliss was booked before the half ended.
Ponticelli and Hickman had efforts blocked early in the second half and in the 62nd minute, the Sky Blues were on the board when a ball came over. Ponticelli and Hickman had shots blocked before Bayliss came in with an effort that smashed off AJ Adelakun and went into the net.
City worked hard with Sayoud and Hickman providing good outlets and had most of the play with Bilal Sayoud, substitute Sion Green and Finn having shots before a Thompson header from a corner just missed.
Had the finishing been better in the second half then City might have got something from the game but the damage had been done and the Sky Blues were out with Rushall facing Alvechurch away in the next round.
