Coventry City will start 2011 in seventh place in the Championship table after their 2-0 defeat to leaders Queens Park Rangers this afternoon.
City's place in the top six was taken by Reading who came back to draw 1-1 at Hull and they have a better goal difference than the Sky Blues.
QPR are seven points clear at the top after their win at the Ricoh and Cardiff's 4-1 defeat at Watford for whom former Sky Blue John Eustace scored.
Swansea are back up to third after a 1-0 home win over Barnsley and they moved up thanks to a late Portsmouth goal giving the South Coast club a 3-3 draw at Leeds United, who now occupy fourth place in the table.
Fifth placed Norwich came back to beat Sheffield United 4-2 at Carrow Road.
At the other end of the table, Preston North End are in a big trouble at the foot of the table after a 3-1 home defeat by Middlesbrough. Crystal Palace were pegged back by Bristol City for a 1-1 draw, whilst Scunthorpe moved up to third bottom after a 2-0 win at Burnley.
In the other game, Millwall beat Leicester City 2-0.
