The plaques to mark the former Changing Rooms of Coventry City FC and a rehearsal room for would be Two Tone artists in the 1970's are to stay on the Binley Oak Pub, despite permission being given to change the building to a Muslim Girls School.

City used the facilities as a changing room and board room in their early days whilst bands like The Specials and The Selecter used to rehearse there in the late 1970's.

The school which has a base in Foleshill, wants the pub converted into classrooms for around 40 female pupils.

A Coventry City Council meeting yesterday gave permission for the change but Councillor Roger Bailey told the CT: "I have minor concerns about car parking and dropping off.

"It is also a very historical place in the city. "It has a lot of music links with people like The Specials and is also an important origin of the football club.

Both are represented by plaques and I would like to make sure they are kept."

Neol Davies and Pauline Black from the Selecter unveil the plaque along with Lord Mayor Jack Harrison and Pete Chambers.
