Cape Town in South Africa which is where England play their next World Cup Group C match against Algeria on Friday is home to the Coventry City South African Supporters Clubs.
We asked their Chairman Mike Monk and a Cape Town resident for his view on how the World Cup had gone so far and he said: "Amazing that we're already eight games into the tournament: doesn't seem that long ago that we were still "in the hundreds" on counting down the days. The opening ceremony went off really well: we were impressed, and whoever did the choreography deserves a medal - getting that many people coordinated couldn't have been easy!
Cracking goal from South Africa to start off the tournament - will probably be one of the goals of the World Cup. Not too many surprises with the results so far, although Germany thumping Australia yesterday was a bit of a shock. Interesting that two of the Germans were booked for diving. There have been some poor decisions, particularly by linesmen, but the absence of trainers running on to the field has been a revelation.
My son Phil and his son Scott went to the first Cape Town game and it all went well. We're off to the Italy v Paraguay but we've got a LOT of rain at the moment so could be a wet one. Can't take umbrellas into the ground for security reasons(!) but vuvuzelas are OK!!! Horrible things that drown out the crowd chanting etc which actually can spoil the atmosphere. There's talk of banning them but that isn't going to happen (unless they're thrown onto the pitch and/or used as a weapon, it is said…)
Won't say much about the Hand of Clod but it was great to see the Rustenberg stadium so full of England fans. They're all on their way to Cape Town now for Friday's game against Algeria, which we'll be at too."
