Mark Robins side are six points off the play-offs and fourteen points off automatic promotion.

Sheffield United who beat Scunthorpe 3-0 lead the table from Tranmere who beat Crewe 2-1 at Preston Park.

Third placed Brentford won 3-1 at Colchester United whilst Doncast moved back to fourth place with a 2-1 win at Oldham.

MK Dons, whom City play on Saturday, are sixth after a 4-2 home defeat to Walsall.

Bournemouth moved to within a point of the play-offs with a 3-0 win over Yeovil, whilst eighth placed Crawley won 2-1 at Portsmouth.

Elsewhere, Shrewsbury drew 2-2 with Notts County and Preston drew 0-0 with Bury.
