City are seven points behind sixth placed Sheffield United whose game against Scunthorpe United was postponed, ten points behind fifth placed Bradford City who beat Notts County 1-0, eighteen points behind MK Dons who lost 3-0 at home to Walsall, twenty one points behind second placed Swindon Town who beat Port Vale 1-0 and twenty two points behind leaders Bristol City who won 3-1 at Gillingham.
Elsewhere, Peterborough drew 0-0 with Doncaster and Fleetwood won 2-0 at Rochdale.
