Speakng about the defeat to BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, City captain Nathan Clarke said: : "I feel partly responsible, I got brought in by the manager originally to help win games but that wasn't to be.
"I'm obviously gutted, I got on with Russell very well, but that's football and things change quickly.
"A new manager has come in now and it's time to knuckle down and try and keep hold of the shirt. We are not winning games and a new manager might look to change things, so I've got to keep fighting and working hard to keep my shirt.
"He (Robins) is trying to stamp his own authority in how he wants things to go, it's only been a week so he hasn't had long to change things but he wants people working hard and trying to grasp his thoughts."
Coventry City are back in League One action on Tuesday night when Southend United are the visitors to the Ricoh Arena for a 7.45pm kick off.
Tickets for the game are on general sale
