Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Terry Butcher has tipped over Coventry City to come back from their lowly position in League One and said he enjoyed the game against the Sky Blues even though he was sacked by the club.
Speaking to the CT's Andy Turner, Butcher who was in charge of an Inverness team which beat City in their final game of their Scottish Highlands Tour 3-1, said: “I’m really sad to see where Coventry are but they’ll be back.
“When I saw the fixture I was really pleased and it was really nice to play against my old club. This is the first time I’ve come across the club in 20 years since they sacked me! I was sacked 20 years ago and employed by them 22 years ago.
“Of course when I was there they were still a First Division club. I was sacked in 1992 and that was the dawn of Sky TV coming in, so usual bad timing from me. But there you are.
“But it’s nice when you see the badge and the sky blue. Someone asked me what colour they play and I thought they were taking the mickey.
“They’ve always been the Sky Blues and it was lovely to play against them and see big Oggy again. It has brought back some great memories.”
As for Butcher’s assessment of City, he said: “They are a little bit behind us and you could see that their finishing and forward movement was not quite up to our speed.
“But Andy has got them playing some nice football. You can see that things just aren’t happening for them at the moment in and around the box, a bit like us two weeks ago.
“We’re making chances and scoring goals now and I’m sure Coventry will also get to that position soon.
“Every time I saw them last season they played some lovely football but just couldn’t score, which was similar to us really, so we’re the Coventry of The Highlands.”
