City's Finance's May Have Hindered City Ladies Future

The well documented financial problems of Coventry City FC could possibly be one of the reasons that Coventry City Ladies were not one of the clubs who will be joining the two tier Womens Super League due to start in March 2014.

The eighteen clubs, who have passed the first adjudication process for The FA Women’s Super League, all appear to have the backing of their men's team or access to finance.

Whilst Coventry City have been very accommodating and helpful in terms of doing things to aid the club, which won back to back promotions in order to get into the Womens Premier League National Division, including permitting bucket shakes before first team home games, the current financial torment that the Sky Blues have been suffering has meant that City Ladies have not been able to receive any of the financial backing that some clubs who will be working with the FA WSL Project Team to finalise the terms and conditions of the agreements, will get to help them take part in the FA's latest idea for women's football.

Leeds United, who are expected to finish as runners up in the WPL National Division this season, are another club who have not been accepted by the FA for a WSL licence and along with the Sky Blues, will wait to learn what the FA plans for life outside the WSL.

A statement from Coventry City Ladies is expected shortly.
