Bury striker Leon Clarke has admitted that his departure from Coventry City upset a lot of people.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Best, admitted that he expected abuse from the City support and said: "Yes because I didn’t leave in the best of circumstances.
“I upset a lot of people and I accept that. I didn’t go about it the way the fans probably wanted me to but there were a lot of things that happened behind the scenes.
“I spoke to Steven Pressley at the time about extending my contract and maybe increasing my wages. I wasn’t asking for the world, I was just asking for a little increase but the club said to me that it wasn’t possible at the time.
“It was kind of a difficult situation then and I was told that if I didn’t put a transfer request in then they weren’t going to accept a bid from Wolves, so I did that because it was the only way the club were going to accept a bid.
”There was also the lure of his home town club, of course, which must have been a significant factor along with the fact that Wolves were flying in League One and looking good for promotion back to the Championship, as well as being able to offer higher wages.
"When I was at Wolves, when I was younger, again I didn't leave on the best of circumstances, and being from Wolverhampton it was an opportunity to go back and prove a few people wrong“But it was one of those things and it didn’t go the way I wanted it to and everyone else wanted it to. I got injured after the first game and the team kind of stayed the same after that so it was difficult and there were a lot of sub appearances.
“But, as I said, I expected the reception I got from the Cov fans and I understand why I got it because I didn’t leave in the best of circumstances, so I’ll take that; it’s fine.”
