Coventry City captain played 60 minutes for the reserves in their 3-2 win over Chesterfield at Ryton yesterday.
Freddy Eastwood, James McPake and Roy O'Donovan also played in the reserves with Eastwood getting two of City goals. O'Donovan missed a penalty while Academy striker Jonson Clarke-Harris scored the third goal.
Clingan has been out of action for five weeks since he broke his toe and his performance was a boost to his manager Andy Thorn.
Thorn said after the game, “He played 60 minutes and came through all right but he’s not played for nearly five weeks, but it is really good to have him back, as it is Jordan Clarke who also played for an hour. But again, he needs games as well but it is great that we have got players on their way back.”
City's young striker Shaun Jeffers was felled in the area to earn his side a penalty, but O'Donovan saw his spot kick saved. The Sky Blues then went 1-0 down before Eastwood scored two goals in the second half. Clarke Harris added the third, but Chesterfield pulled a goal back to make the final score 3-2.
Thorn is still waiting to learn how bad Richard Wood's groin injury is and how long he will be out for.
