Sammy Clingan is hoping his side can continue with their unbeaten run until the end of the season. City are now unbeaten in five games as they travel to Middlesbrough today almost exactly a year ago to the day when the two teams last met in the corresponding fixture in which both teams had already secured their Championship status and played like they had nothing left to play for..
A year on an in an almost identical situation and with both teams on 53 points from 43 games and both teams safe from any relegation worries, but with City having the upper hand on goal difference.
Sammy Clingan want to see his side continue with their recent good run and want to come away from the North East with another win and three more points.
He said, “Although we are safe we just want to keep winning games. I played against Boro last year and it was a 1-1 draw up there and we played a different formation under Chris Coleman and we passed the ball quite well without creating many chances."
“The last couple of seasons Coventry have taken their foot off the pedal when they have known they are safe but we feel we can win a few more before the summer. It will be a tough game because they are a decent side even though they haven’t been doing that well this year so we have to be prepared for it and try to stay unbeaten until the end of the season.”
Speaking about City's leading scorer this season Marlon King, who has netted six times in his last four games, Clingan said, “He’s been on fire lately and we all thought he would have scored his chance at the end but he didn’t so we just had to get on with it. You always fancy Kingy from those sorts of positions but this time it just wasn’t to be."
“We all knew what sort of player he was before he came in and when the club signed him we thought he was a great capture and to be fair to him, he has shown that by scoring so many goals which he thoroughly deserves."
"He’s a got a few in the last few games and hopefully he can get a few more in the last three games. We all wish there were more games to the season because we have been on a good run recently and we want it to continue.”
