Andy Whing, the scorer of the last ever goal at Highfield Road in a Football League fixture is back on the books of Coventry City.
Whing, who was not given a new deal by Iain Dowie in 2007, after helping City win the Birmingham Senior Cup, will be assistant to Andy Crabtree with City U18's.
The former defender, has been coaching at Oxford United and Kidderminster and speaking to the club website, Academy Manager, Richard Stevens said: “It will be good to have another ex-professional helping out now in the Academy and another one amongst our ranks because we have been a little bit short of late.
“With Andy coming back; one he knows the system and two he knows the club and he is obviously developed as a coach since he left the club and I think he will bring a lot with his experience of playing at the top level and his experience of being at the club and he wants to learn and develop as a coach so it kind of suits both parties.
“It helps having that level of experience in the building because he can reference stages of his career and what’s he’s been through and his experience throughout his whole career.
“He can reflect on some of the highs and lows that young players go through, so from that part it’s a valuable appointment and when we interviewed Andy it was just evident that he was the one for the role.”
