Former Coventry City youngster Paul Bastock has a new coaching job after retiring from playing football after a thirty year career.
The keeper, and now honourary member of the Coventry City Former Players Association, was part of City's team which won the FA Youth Cup in 1987 and went on to play for the likes of Cambridge United, Rushden & Diamonds, St Albans and Boston United before playing for Wisbech Town this season and helping them to promotion.
Bastock beat Peter Shilton's record for competitive matches of 1,249 back in November and was invited to the PFA Player of the Year awards and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
He went onto play in 1,277 competitive matches and has now been installed as goalkeeping coach at Kettering Town, whose manager is former Coventry Sphinx manager Marcus Law.
Bastock told the Kettering club website: "I am delighted, really buzzing with this opportunity with Kettering, who I regard as my first club, as I had my first full season of football under Peter Morris, I do have an affinity with the club.
"I had a great meeting with Marcus and Ritchie and was really impressed with their visions for the future of the club, first, of course, is to repeat and better last season with promotion, taking the club another step forward to the National leagues.
"It feels really great to be back involved, I cannot wait to get started”.
