Winger Liam Davis has signed for Northampton Town. Davis or Dwiss to his team mates at Coventry City, was born in London and progressed through City's Academy into the first team.
A mainstay iof City's reserve team, his City career, like many players took a bit of a dive under Micky Adams and was even used as a diversion tactic by the now Brighton boss during the tournament in Ibiza and he was loaned out to Peterborough.
However, Iain Dowie was impressed by Davis ironically in a friendly against Peterborough in February 2007 and gave him a first team start against Sheffield Wednesday on April 21st 2007.
Davis spent some time injured but appeared for City in the second half of the home game with Ipswich on December 29th 2007 on the left wing. It was at left back that he was recalled and he played 81 minutes of the home defeat against Burnley.
He had a part in City's next three first team games and a substitute appearance against Cardiff which saw John Harbin and Frankie Bunn in charge.
Under Chris Coleman, Davis never had a sniff but continued to put in good performances for the reserves. It was no surprise that Coleman did not offer him a contract and he was allowed to leave at the end of the season just gone.
Davis has signed a two year deal at Sixfields and all at Covsupport wish him well.
"Liam has a lot of potential," said Northampton boss Stuart Gray to his club's website.
"He is a left sided player, with good pace and a lot of skill. He has a good engine and is a natural athlete. I am sure we can help get the best out of him and he is a player with the hunger and desire to do well. He can play on the wing or at full back and gives us options down the left hand side.
"He has what you are looking for in a young player. As well as being full of energy, he has a powerful shot, good technical ability and he has a good build. "We have always said that our recruitment this summer will be a mix of young players with potential and experienced players. Liam will be a good addition to the squad and our work to strengthen further is still ongoing."
