Coventry City manager Chris Coleman has been reflecting on yesterdays dismal end to a desperately disappointing season.
The Sky Blues entertained a Watford team which has the worst away record in the Championship, but were soundly beaten in one of the worst performances of the season.
Coleman did not emerge from the dressing room for over an hour after the final whistle and when he did he could not offer an explanation for the performance.
"That was the worst possible way to end the season, no silver linings, no excuses, it was embarrassing. In the space of seven days we've done it again. We played ever so well at Middlesbrough last week, but today some of our defending was laughable. lamented Coleman.
"We were outplayed right across the board and I apologise to the supporters for that. It was a huge shame because we had a good turn-out but if I'd have been one of our fans I'd have been gone long before the end."
" I feel almost as bad as I did two years ago when we only just stayed up after losing 4-1 at Charlton. That left a terrible taste in my mouth but I've changed the team a lot since then, so it will take a long while for that horrible feeling to go away for me and I hope the players feel the same, because they should."
"It doesn't matter how good you are as a player if you haven't got enthusiasm, hunger, desire, regardless if there's anything riding on the game or not. Whether you're playing for Barcelona, Coventry City or your local Sunday side, it's you against your opposite number.Today it was me against Malky McKay and he beat me today, beat me well."
Before the game, there have been call for Coleman to be sacked or to resign, but the clamour for his head increased after the final whistle on Sunday, but Coleman is unmoved.
"I understand how supporters feel, of course I do and I'm not happy with the way things have gone, I can promise you that." said a defiant Coleman,"As a player, a manager and a coach I always look at myself; what could I have done differently, done better? "
"Maybe I've been doing things wrong, but you can't legislate for some of the elementary mistakes that were being made out there, or the lack of effort where it really matters, proper effort, not 75 or 80 per cent."
