Coventry City manager Chris Coleman is hoping to have Ulises De La Cruz signed in time to play against Preston North End on Saturday.
The defender who has played for Hibs,Aston Villa and Reading had spent pre-season at Watford but could not sort out a deal and is a free agent.
"Obiously, we have a problem at right back," said Chris Coleman to the CT. "We have invited him in for training and we will see how he is. Hopefully,we can have a chat with him and sort out something short term with him and see how it goes.
"We have known about him for a long time and he was on our list in the summer with Stephen Wright but we got Wrighty in and he impressed us, but due to his injury,we do need someone who can come in on the short term and who knows what could happen.
"Ulises has great experience and enthusiasm and can hopefully do a job for us. He is a very offensive minded player and an international and we hope we can do something with him.
"We can take an unattached player on a short term deal and hopefully, we can have him in place for Saturday. I need to speak to the Chairman and obviously, Ulises himself and hopefully we can get something sorted."
Birmingham City had been interested in the Ecudaorian but Brum boss Alex McLeish has opted not to persue his club's interest, leaving, the way open for the Sky Blues.
