City play their first pre-season friendly at Wrexham tomorrow and Coleman said to the CT: "I am very pleased with the lads during their first week because they have come back in good shape, and it is pleasing to see David Bell and Stephen Wright come back so well after their injuries.
"Leon McKenzie has as well although he won't be able to join in for another three to four weeks maybe, but, nevertheless, he is in good shape and ahead of schedule.
"And the lads look quite fit in general. It was difficult for them in the first four or five days because of the heat but they still got through it and we had no complaints and they have shown a good mentality.
"They know it is going to be hard but they have got on with it and that's a good sign.
"They have been doing double sessions. Sometimes they train 10-30am and then again at 2.30pm if the second one is a gym session.
"If it is two ball sessions with a bit of physical work then we train 10.30am and then again at 5pm to give them a bit of rest in the afternoon, and they have taken to it very well."
There has been lots of work with the ball and Chris Coleman added: "I am a firm believer in getting the ball out straight away because you want them to get used to the typical movements in a game situation and the sooner they get used to that the better.
"You can do as much running as you like but the more checking and turning you do, the more realistic it is to the game itself.
"That's not to say they don't do any running without the ball, that's important for the base fitness, but they get fitter quicker and it is more like the match fitness when we get the balls out."
