According to the Chairman of Coventry United, they would, if the time was right, play at the Ricoh Arena.
The club which took over the Coventry Spires franchise in the Midland Combination Division 2, are currently chasing promotion but is faced with the problem of having to move from the Alan Higgs Centre if they are to progress in the football pyramid, due to a lack of floodlights and a stand which are a minimum requirement.
Coventry United Jason Kay said to the Coventry Telegraph's Ben Eccleston: “If in time we progress through the leagues, with the support of the people and the community, we will happily open discussions with the council about playing at the Ricoh.
“It’s the envy of almost every team in Europe, both the ground and its facilities, and if it’s good enough for Bruce Springsteen, then it’s good enough for us.
“We are Coventry City die-hards, living and breathing the club, the camaraderie, the memories and we want future generations to be able grow up with the same feelings, passions even obsessions. But not in Northampton – in Coventry.
“We want to rediscover all those things that, come wind, rain or shine, brought us en masse to Highfield Road and more recently to the Ricoh Arena.
“We want to engender that feeling of expectation, excitement and adrenalin that we all once had following Coventry City and that only live sport can offer.
“We believe Coventry United can do this, where football is the most important thing; not the politics, the financial returns or the chief executive.
“Treading a path, clearly defined and well communicated so that everyone associated with our city understands the ambition and can feel part of the team and its future.”
