Coventry City have dropped their interest in veteran striker Kevin Phillips because his wage demands were in excess of what the club is prepared to offer.
Phillips was released by Birmingham City at the end of last season and available on a free transfer. City boss Andy Thorn did admit he was interested in speaking to the player, but it now appears that any early interest has evaporated.
Coventry City chairman Ken Dulieu was asked whether the club had spoken to Phillips or his agent and he replied, “No, because we can’t get anywhere near that type of salary, but we are talking to a couple of Premiership clubs so we will see what happens as the pre-season progresses.”
