Cranie Happy To Play Anywhere

Coventry City defender Martin Cranie would like to play in the Sky Blues side as a central defender but he is happy to play anywhere.

Speaking to the Sunday Mercury, Cranie said: "Hopefully I can still play there because that's my favoured position. "But at the minute I am playing everywhere. People have said that maybe it is something to do with my height because I am not the tallest, but I still feel I can play there very well.

"But I am just happy playing anywhere whether it be left-back, right-back or centre-back I can do a job.

"I will just get my head down for the rest of the season and play in whatever position I am asked to play and then in the summer maybe me and the gaffer will have a sit down and see where next season lies for me and what position.

"We will have to wait and see what faces he brings in and which players are here next season, but we will deal with that in the summer.

"But everyone wants to be No.1 in their position and that's why I came to Coventry, to play first team football. Obviously I wasn't getting my chances down at Portsmouth and when I first spoke to the gaffer he said I would be getting games here.

"And that's what I am doing and I am starting to feel settled. I do want to be playing centre-back but if I am playing first team football then I am more than happy.

Currently, Cranie is playing at left back and Cranie said: "It's going OK. "I have played there a few times in my career. I don't really favour it but if I can go in there and do a job then I am happy.

"It can be harder trying to get forward because I keep trying to cut in onto my right foot but as the games go on I am starting to open up a bit more and the more games I play the more I will get used to it.

"Having a settled back four does help because it has been a bit weird when he has chopped and changed it with new faces coming in, but the last couple of games have seen us working well as a unit."
