With James McPake now a long term injury and Ben Turner only just back to full training, Cranie has been used as a centre half in the last two matches and has enjoyed it.
Speaking to Sky Blue Player at the club's weekly press conference, Cranie said: "Obviously it's been unfortunate for Jaz but I've got to take this opportunity with both hands now.
"The gaffer always knew that left back was not my favourite position because I'd hinted about being in the centre but there's lots of competition for a place in the middle.
"I've always said to him though that as long I'm playing I'm happy although I'd be even happier in the middle
"What I've got to do now is make sure I keep the form going so that I don't give him a decision to make when it comes to picking the team."
