To start with I refuse to call it the English League. The Football League was the first in the world; it's like not putting our country's name on our stamps - we were the first country to issue postage stamps, therefore our name does not appear anywhere on our issues. Similarly we do not need to assert our nationality in our league designation.
But on to more important matters: two news stories which appeared on the always excellent Coventry Mad website this morning. I was struck by the conciliatory and empathetic attitude of Wasps coach Dai Young in his comments with regard to their home matches in the coming season.
After playing the vast majority of these on a Saturday last season, they intend to play all non television stipulated games on a Sunday for the 2016-7 season.
Contrast his comments with those of the increasingly bellicose and at the same time sob-inducing Chris Anderson who has not taken long to fall prey to the Sisu infection which long ago afflicted the previous Sisu mouthpiece, one Timothy Fisher.
Moving on to the increasingly unbelievable story of the "revamped" Football League Trophy; leaving aside one's views on the rights and wrongs of the decision which has been widely derided by many fans of League One and Two clubs who point out correctly that their chances of a Wembley appearance have gone out from 1 in 24 to 1 in 32, it beggars belief that they trumpeted the announcement without checking that the Premier League bigwigs actually wanted to take part.
I wonder what size crowd will be attracted by Stoke City Reserves and Swansea City Reserves in the Wembley Final?
