Former Coventry City central defender Calum Davenport is having his fitness assessed by promotion chasing West Bromwich Albion.
Davenport had terminated his contract with West Ham by mutual consent following an incident in which he was stabbed in both of his legs. The 27 year old defender is also waiting to appear in court on charges of assault on his sister Cara.
On 25 January, Davenport pleaded not guilty to the charge at Luton Crown Court and the case was adjourned until 2 August 2010 at the same court.
Davenport appeared in court in November 2009, charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail on the condition that he has no contact with his sister.
In January 2010, West Ham suspended Davenport's wages until completion of the court case alleging breach of contract on his part.
West Brom are testing Davenport's fitness and will decide whether to continue to assist with his recovery. He is still a long way from being fully fit and capable of playing professional football again.
At this time there are no plans to offer him a playing contract.
