David Busst The Match Day Guest

Last updated : 29 December 2017 By CCPFA

Heroic former Sky Blue defender and tremendous Club servant Dave Busst will be the Coventry City Former Players Association’s ‘special guest’ at the Sky Blues home game against lowly Chesterfield at the Ricoh on New Years’ Day!The Sky Blues are looking for a treble of home successive home wins at the Ricoh (after that disappointing defeat at Port Vale last time out). Join him to help ‘Rock the Ricoh’ and kick off 2018 with a bang (and 3 points).

He needs little introduction to Sky Blues fans. As Director of CCFC’s very successful Sky Blues in the Community operation he has played an enormous part in energising the links between Club and the local Coventry and Warwickshire community through sport over many years. For example, CCFPA members are regular attenders of the popular and ever-expanding SBiTC’s ‘Walking Football’ initiative for Over 50s.

A ‘Brummie’, Dave graduated from non-league sides Solihull Borough (1987), King’s Heath (1988) and Moor Green Rovers (1990) from where then Sky Blue Manager (and now fellow CCFPA member) Bobby Gould signed him as a professional in 1992 recognising his top-level potential.

‘Bussty’ went on to make 60 Sky Blue appearances (netting five times) before his enforced retirement due to an horrific leg injury received against Manchester United in April 1996, receiving a sell-out Highfield Road testimonial versus Manchester United in May 1997 (which proved to be the last ever professional game for the Red Devil’s Eric Cantona). Dave has also gained managerial experience with Solihull Borough (2000-03) and Evesham United (2003-06).

Dave Busst

‘Bussty’ is a past CCFPA committee member and co-manager of our Sky Blue Legends XI which turns out for charity. He is a regular supporter of CCFPA events and frequent attender at, for example, our Legends and Golf Days. We understand Dave’s nephews are mascots for today’s match!

If you can’t get to the game you can listen to him providing live match-day analysis from the Ricoh Press Box for the BBC CWR commentary team.
