Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has to decide which of his in form defenders he will drop for Saturday’s game against Crewe Alexandra at Sixfields Stadium.
Pressley was forced to alter his preferred 4-4-2 formation to a 3-4-2-1for the FA Cup game at Hartlepool last Saturday because of his striker shortage, but with all four strikers available for this Saturday; he will have to drop one of the central defenders to make way for a striker.
Pressley will have to decide which one of the three central defenders, Jordan Clarke, Andy Webster or Danny Seaborne will start on the bench.
Pressley told the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner: “I thought all three of them acquitted themselves particularly well, especially in the second half when Hartlepool were coming at us very strongly.
“I’m always open to change and we went with that system because I thought it was the best option in the circumstances, but although it was good enough to get us a result and keep us in the cup it didn’t allow us to play our normal game, pressing at the top end of the pitch and trying to dominate the opposition.
“We’ll have three, possibly four forwards available again on Saturday so that will give us the chance to play the style that we are very comfortable with.
“It will be tough on whichever centre-back doesn’t play but you’ve got to remember that we’re coming up to a period of seven games in 21 days and it will be very difficult for anybody to play to his maximum in all seven so I’ve got to plan ahead and utilise my squad.
“Take Andy Webster, I thought his performances had suffered a bit because of fatigue which is why he dropped out against MK Dons but he was back to his best at Hartlepool.
“He showed great leadership and organisation and was immense in winning first ball up. That’s the sort of reaction you’re looking for whenever you decide to give somebody a break.”
