Dele Fears Goals May Not Be Enough
Coventry City striker Dele Adebola fears that his goals may not be enough to give him a regular place next season. The Nigerian who topped City's goalscoring charts this season told the CT: "I am delighted to get the award but I am not delighted with the amount of goals I have scored. "I can point out the fact that I have not played the full season in terms of as many games as last year, but that would just be making excuses.
"There does need to be changes in certain areas and hopefully not just myself, but Kevin Kyle, Leon McKenzie and Michael Mifsud will all score more goals depending on who's here next season.
"Personally, I scored nine and although I have scored less goals over a season in my career, the way I have felt the last couple of years I have felt as if I could get 15 plus.
"Even last season I wasn't happy with the 12 I got, so I will always be a little bit more critical of myself and, hopefully, that will push me to get a few more next year in what will be a strong squad.
"That's if, of course, I am involved."said Adebola who is now walking gingerly after an operation to lengthen an abductor tendon in his groin. "Hopefully, it is a good sign that the manager sent me for my op early so I can be fit as soon as possible but if he deems it right to bring in another striker then things can change quite quickly and dramatically."
He added: "The operation has gone really well and I am quite surprised that I am able to walk around the way I am because I had quite a sizeable chunk of muscle taken out of my groin.
"But, fingers crossed, it's okay. "I have needed the op for two years but we have managed the injury instead, which is not good for me and I have played on because that's what I do.
"I am looking forward to next season and in getting through the pre-season but I can't say for sure that I will be here because the manager has still got to make some decisions. "But I don't think it does me or the team any good to carry on that way, so it needed to be sorted."
"When the time comes, if he brings other players in he might want to let others go, so that's in the back of everyone's mind."
