The Coventry City Diamond Club held their annual Ascot lunch today at Coventry Rugby Club's Butts Park Arena.
The event, which had to be moved due to LOCOG taking over the Ricoh Arena for the next two months, was attended by over 130 members and guests who were welcomed by Chairman Tom Dentith.
Billy Bell, who received an award for 25 years service by the Royal Variety Club last week, entertained those present in his own style as well as speaking about what a good year it has been for the Coventry City Former Players Association of which he is a committee member.
It was time for the racing and the members and guests with some of the ladies in their hats which befitted such an occasion, had to give their predictions as to who would win three of the races n the card.
Four members got the winners in two out of the three races, so George the resident bookie, used their combined odds to eliminate two and leave Ray Stephens and Dennis Hoffman to toss a coin. Ray's luck continued and he won the bottle of champagne prize.
The Best Hat Competition judged by Julie and Pete Chambers was won by Margaret Hancox.
