There are huge concerns that some members of the Coventry City Diamond Club, the City supporters for those with fifty or years of watching CCFC, may never see the club play again.
The club, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, has around 450 members, some of whom are in their 90's and Joe Elliott told the Coventry Telegraph's Ben Eccleston: “The Diamond Club has members who are in their 70s, 80's and even 90s and obviously people are worried that for one reason or another they may not be able to go to Northampton to watch games.
“So by the time the club comes back to Coventry they may not be able to go and see the club play at all.”
Chairman Tom Dentith said:“Like everyone around here, football is in my blood. It was such a big part of our lives, brought everyone together and you made so many friends.
“It was such a big thing and you never thought all this would happen. Football gave you worth and brought you in to contact with all sorts of people and that will be sadly missed now for the youngsters.
“I am at the age now where I’m feeling that away days are out of it for me, so I can’t see me going to Northampton, along with a lot of other people. And it is making that spark and appetite for football that you thought would never go away, actually begin to smoulder. It is all just memories now.”
