Coventry City midfielder Michael Doyle is hoping that he can force his way into the City team.

The Irishman had two operations during the close season but it now fit again and looking to get his place back in the Sky Blues starting eleven if he can dislodge Aron Gunnarsson, Guilly Beuzelin or Jay Tabb who played in that role at Barnsley and in the pre-season friendly at Kilmarnock.

Said Doyle to the CT: "I had a couple of problems last season and the specialist said I would need to get them sorted out but I spoke to the management and we decided that I would delay the operations until we were safe from relegation.

"It never really worked out as it went right to the last day of the season - but to be honest the club needed every player at its disposal because of the situation we were in so I was happy to do that.

"I knew it would mean I would miss the start of the season but I am back two or three weeks quicker than I thought I would be.

"My match fitness is already coming back - I played a small part in the Barnsley and Aldershot games and have played some reserve football too.

"I've had no reaction to either problem and the medical staff are so good that I have 100 per cent confidence that I won't have a problem. I feel ready and really want to work my way back into the team."
