Wasps CEO Nick Eastwood has said that the state of the Ricoh Arena pitch will continually be reviewed.
The temporary pitch was fine for Coventry City's game against Fleetwood Town but cut up badly when Wasps beat London Irish on Sunday.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, Eastwood said: “A few areas of the new temporary pitch became cut up around the scrums, but we expected that – you have 16 big guys and nearly two metric tonnes on the pitch during scrums.”
“The players said the pitch played perfectly and was conducive to fast, open rugby. Newly laid pitches take time to bind – it was only laid ten days ago – and we fully expect it to improve with time.
"Even on Sunday it was a huge improvement on the quality it was before and the club has done everything in its power to provide the best possible playing surface in the short time available between games here.
“We will review the state of the pitch and work hard to ensure that the surface is in the best possible condition before both CCFC and Wasps play again at the Ricoh Arena.
"We would like to reiterate that this pitch is just a temporary solution and the club is committed to fully relaying the pitch over the summer with a reinforced, hybrid pitch in order to be ready for the 2015/16 season.”
