Coventry City captain Reda Johnson has said that the backing of the City support will lift the players against Gillingham during their first game back at the Ricoh Arena.

Speaking to James Rodger of the Coventry Telegraph, Johnson said: "I'm very excited about the Ricoh. We are going today after training to have a look. All the players are excited.

"When I signed, the manager promised me he would do everything he could to get us back to the Ricoh Arena and he has fulfilled that promise.

"The most important thing is the 3 points. We need to focus on the game rather than the occasion. But the fans' excitement will help us on the night.

"The fans are there to help us when we have heavy legs.

"I've played at the Ricoh once and it's a very good arena. the big stadiums - are enjoyable for the fans and the players.

"My role as captain is to calm the younger boys if they get nervous."

"We have a great squad. It's very important to keep our momentum and try to get better.

"I don't know much about Gillingham but they will be competitive. I know their goalkeeper Stephen Bywater - and I scored against him last season. He text me this week. Hopefully I can do the same.

"I had a look around the stadium two weeks ago. I was surprised by the poor quality of the pitch. Hopefully it's better now."

"Walking into the dressing room and out into the pitch...it will be like a second debut."
