The not too serious match report
Cov Vets 3 Nuneaton Supporters 3
In a secret pitch location Cov Vets secured their first ever point in the fans league against a very young Nuneaton side.
The game was played in a great spirit. Considering the weather and the state of the pitch both sides played some good football . The ref at the end of the game said it was one of the best games he had refereed. Ok, it was his first ever game but it was a nice comment.
Before the game player manager McKay checked that the Nuneaton lads has a note from their mum to say they good play! Either I'm getting older or Nuneaton are getting younger!
Playing for the Vets is getting more popular and they started with 6 subs. Three other players were also available but didn't get a chance to play. There's talk now of a Vets B side.
Playing in front of the lowest crowd of the season 3, Tony won the toss. He's never lost the toss and also has never taken off the captains arm band.
The Vets started off well but Nuneaton had the early play and deservedly went 1-0 up.
Their manager Ashley was playing in goal was launching some long goal kicks and Kev was doing well in the air to win the ball.
Playing alongside him Tony had one of his quieter games not arguing with the ref once, was sweeping around him.
The equaliser came after a good move down the left and "he who scores goals" Aron scored for the 150th match in a row.
Back came Nuneaton and crossed a ball from the right. The ball then stopped in a puddle and McKay wearing flippers should have dived into it to clear it. However not wanting to get his feet wet he allowed the Nuneaton player to fish the ball out to score.
Martin picked up a loose ball and then ran through the Nuneaton team and with the goal at mercy fired wide. A great bit of skill and deserved a goal.
Ashley then produced the save of the game to deny He Who Scores Goals his second goal. How he got to it I don't know...it was worth the admission money.
Back came the Vets to make it 2-2 before half time with a goal from ?(anyone want to claim it)
A flurry of subs saw Hayden, Adam and Lee come on. Andi and Mark had been playing well and it was a hard decision.
Hayden looked comfortable at left mid and Pud in his new socks slotted in at left back.
Adam then decided to shove one of the Nuneaton players in the back to give away a penalty. Despite Tony claiming he hardly touched him the decision was made.
A well struck shot produced an excellent save from Sam who had a fine game in goal. Sam complete with new haircut, has 100% record of saving penalties.
The Vets then went 3-2 up through Kev from a corner.
McKay left the field to a standing ovation (he wishes) and Lee or Luke as McKay called him came on. Five minutes later in the shortest appearance of all time Luke came off injured.
On came Jamie at only 17 and the youngest debutant for the Vets.
Stato then took centre stage and within 10 seconds of coming on had done his trade mark push to give away a free kick before Nuneaton pulled one back to draw level.
More subs saw man of the match Martin replaced by Andi who played well alongside Gav who again controlled the midfield.
To prove Mckay hasn't a clue what he's doing, Young Andy was moved to right back.
With one minute left Nuneaton scored but Mckay gave a controversial offside decision.
The two sides left the field to a standing ovation from the 3 fans.
Speaking to the home shopping channel afterwards McKay explained the decision to take "He Scores Goals" off, "I said to him at half time that unless he puts the cat in the bin he's off. He didn't and I took him off"!
"I'm proud of the players today. All the lads put in 100% and I made the right decision to turn down Chelsea to stay with the Vets.
