Representatives of the seventy two Football League clubs including Coventry City are to vote this Thursday at a meeting in Derby on a proposal from FIFA to scrap emergency loans.
FIFA want all loans to be done during the two transfer windows starting in 2014 and said in a statement to BBC Late Kick Off: “[Emergency loans are] not compatible with general principles of the Fifa regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players” .
This season, Coventry City have taken Gary Gardener from Aston Villa on a month emergency loan and manager Andy Thorn has stated his intent to try and bring in more players on loan before the loan window closes on the last Thursday in March.
Former Coventry City youngster Greg Abbott, who is manager of Carlisle United, told BBC Late Kick Off:
"It's an absolute outrage. "For us it would be a disaster and it would crucify us financially. We know at the start of the season the revenue is not going to be there so we have to gamble.
"We either go with a small squad, or overload the squad with players and financially we cause the club a problem.
"I don't think there's been a lot of thought gone into it."
