Former Coventry City defender Ian Butterworth has added his name to the list of candidates for the job of Lincoln City manager.

Butterworth was in the frame for the same job when it was vacant earlier in the year, but Chris Sutton was appointed instead. However with Sutton's departure last week, the job is once a gain up for grabs.

Butterworth had been assistant manager at Norwich City, but had to leave when Paul Lambert took over at Carrow Road and brought in his own staff.

The 46 year old Butterworth joined Coventry City in 1981 where he played in central defence. He joined Nottingham Forest from City in 1985 in a deal which saw a young Stuart Pearce also move to Forest.

Butterworth then went to Norwich on loan before joining The Canaries permanently in 1986. He stayed there until a knee injury forced his retirement from playing.
