Fortune: I'm Always Ready

Last updated : 10 March 2016 By CNS Staff

Marc Antoine Fortune has said that he is always ready to play for Coventry City.

Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Andy Turner, the striker said: "I know I played Premier League so maybe they expect a bit more but trust me I give all I can.

“I will try my best every time I am on the pitch.

“When I came here I knew it would be, not difficult, but it’s normal not to take a striker like Adam Armstrong out of a team if he’s doing well so I tried to make an impact as a sub. Sometimes it worked and sometimes not – that’s football and fans have to understand it’s teamwork.

“It can be difficult when you don’t play many games and, for me, the season has been so-so – not the best and not the worst because I have played and scored a couple of goals. I’m 34 and I just want to go on the pitch and enjoy my football.

“Hopefully the fans understand I am the type of player who loves football first and will always do my best.

“It’s been a long time that I haven’t played and that’s the choice of the manager.

“I said to him I will be ready when he needs me and I am not surprised I played this week because I am always working hard at the training ground. The people don’t see that, they only see the games, so I try to stay fit and ready for when needed.

“Every time he calls me I try to give the best I can and if people say I played good then I’m happy that’s the case.”

“Arma has done really well this season and I knew when I came here that there would be a lot of competition with him.

“I think Tuesday night was my chance to show that I am still here because I have not played for ten games. It’s about the team and I will always fight for the team first before thinking about me because I know what I can do and I am always ready.

“I want to play a part in these games and I’ll always push for that.

“I didn’t come here just to sit on the bench, I came to play. The manager put me in and I tried to play well and I will push him to put me in the starting 11 again. We’ll see in the next game. Sometimes it’s more about tactics, but we’ll see.

“I tend to play more away from home because of my size and way I play.

“The manager likes me to keep the ball but I am OK with that and if he needs me to start on Saturday I will be the first one to be happy and I will give everything.”
