Four Possible Sites For New Stadium

Last updated : 21 January 2014 By Covsupport News Service

According to reports from those who attended the CCFC Stadium forum tonight at the Village Hotel, there are four possible sites for Coventry City's new stadium:

The new stadium is to be sited some six miles from the boundary of Coventry.

Below is one woman's view of the meeting (thanks to the Sky Blue Mailing List for this.

One Woman's View

Anyone else attend the meeting at the Village Hotel in Coventry tonight?

Just home and what a waste of time it was. I almost felt sorry for solicitor Sandra Garlick who is hoping to form a 'new stadium' committee.

In fairness the meeting WAS about what fans would like to see in a new
stadium but the angry attendees main concern was that if we do have to have a new stadium it should be in Coventry.

She opened by asking us what we'd like in the stadium? Padded seats? Sky blue walls? A CCFC museum? Large TV screens on approach? All laughable proposals....It was almost surreal.

The panel member concerned with land acquisition was, she insisted, bound by confidentiality and told us nothing other than four sites outside the city boundary were in the frame. When pushed as to how far outside Coventry they were she said all were no further than six miles away and some of the discussions were with landowners rather than local authorities.

The architect told us nothing that hadn't already been released but was asked by one sarcastic fan if the Brentford stadium his firm had designed was actually in Brentford.

CCFC/SISU/OTIUM weren't represented but Ms Garlick said she intended to feed back fans' views.

No one was interested in the form of the new stadium. Fans were quite vocal and concerned that she appreciated playing in Coventry was our main concern, preferably at the Ricoh. The debate became quite heated with many suggesting Garlick, a self-proclaimed devoted City fan, was a SISU puppet, prepared to watch City play anywhere. She admitted she attended Sixfields because she wanted to see her team play.

The club paid for the hire of the venue tonight, Garlick told us, when
asked. Future meetings would take place at her office and not be financed by the club.

So, there were no revelations of note. A new stadium will be built,
somewhere, some time within the next ? years. Angry fans, many extremely articulate, most civil, prepared to listen and looking for hope and answers, left the meeting muttering "Waste of time." The press were in attendance......
