John Gayle has joined Southern League side Evesham United.
The former City striker was signed by Bobby Gould and has played for Bromsgrove,Burton Albion,Wimbledon, Stoke,Birmingham, Northampton,Shrewsbury,Torquay before moving to Moor Green in 2001.
Gayle has not played non-league football since 2003,but still turns out for Triplex veterans on a Sunday. It was at the club in Kings Norton where he teamed up with David Busst and the move came to fruition.
Busst said: “He’s as fit now as when he stopped playing. At 43, John’s always kept himself in good shape. “I initially signed John as cover, but he’s the ideal bloke to bring on for the final 20 minutes. “He still holds the ball up well, is powerful in the air and people don’t like playing against him.”
Gayle will continue with his coaching which has won him much respect in the Birmingham area.
