Coventry City Legend Bill Glazier was the main guest speaker at the Coventry City Diamond Club's September Lunch.

Over one hundred and eighty members and guests, enjoyed a lunch which saw David Busst from Sky Blues In The Community talking about Walking Football, before SISU Boss Joy Seppala and Diamond Club Committee Member Ray Stephens spoke.

Ian Davidson from the Coventry City London Supporters Club and like Ray, a member of the Coventry City Supporters Consultation Group, asked for ideas on making the Ricoh Arena less sterile before Bill Glazier, who had received a standing ovation when he was initially introduced spoke to Joe Elliott.

Bill, a hero to many City supporters, spoke about how he came to play for Coventry City, starting off in the Boys Bridgade and then going on trial at Torquay United for nine months before being invited to Crystal Palace and being signed on as a member of the groundstaff which meant training twice a week and cleaning the stands.

Bill spent two to three years in Palace's Youth team and played against Real Madrid in a friendly, coming on for the second half and not letting a goal in against a side who had already scored four goals and one which included the likes of Puskas and Di Stefano.

There was whispers which led him being given a phone number and speaking to Alan Dicks and then attending a meeting with Jimmy Hill in the boardroom and Bill signing for City on £45 a week and buying a house in Bishop Itchington with some of his £4.500 signing on fee.

Bill spoke fondly of George Curtis and some of his team mates including the likes of George Hudson and spoke about the game against Wolves in 1967 and his disappointment when Jimmy Hill left.

Bill was later sold to Brentford but only played nine games and received another tremendous ovation from the Diamond Club when he finished speaking.
